An Abstract Journey

I have spent the last many months searching for my abstract voice. This collection is an endeavor to speak about my journey towards personal growth.

We have so many ideas and pictures of ourselves as we think others see us, and sometimes these images may not represent our true selves. One of the hardest parts of this journey is to recognize what our true self is. We may have aspects that are reflections of our environment and upbringing that are not true to that experience, but merely something that we made assumptions about either consciously or unconsciously. Many of these assumptions do not serve us well, and so perhaps it’s something we can release in order to get a truer vision.

Working on this collection has invited me to examine some of the boxes I have put myself in more closely and to let go of judgments I’ve made about myself and others. It’s an ongoing process!

what are my boxes made of?

It’s easy to put oneself in boxes, creating assumptions about how one should act or appear. when we become aware of what those boxes are, wife, mother, sister, friend, we can decide whether our boxes fit us, or if they need changing, expanding or rearranging.

What lies ahead?

Looking to the future can be exhilarating, frightening or worrisome. This is because we are not living in the present moment, which is very challenging to do..

Am I seeing clearly?

Often when we have a problem, a change in perspective is needed. If we have no contrast, we will not grow, and in art, no contrast may result in a boring painting. Art is life, someone said.
